February Board & Membership Meeting

The Board of Directors met on Tuesday, February 9th to discuss plans for our upcoming community fundraising campaign, a Chairman’s Planning Guide training, and a Mardi Gras Party.  We had the pleasure of having Jaime McConathy from South Arkansas Community College Continuing Education tell us about alot of the upcoming class offerings.  Please keep checking the calendar to the left and our postings on upcoming events.

 

Attached is the agenda for the year end board meeting which will be held March 5th-7th in Fort Smith.  There will be an “abbreviated” Pub Crawl on Friday night beginning at approximately 7 pm, which will depart from some pre-determined point in the hotel lobby.

El Dorado Hosts Regional Officer Training

Local Jaycee Board Training was held at the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, January 27th from 6-9:30 PM.  Arkansas Junior Chamber Vice-President of Individual Development Toby Stephens of Magnolia and 2008 State President & JCI Trainer John Baine of El Dorado led the training.

Local officers from Camden, El Dorado, and Magnolia attended.  Topics included: Board Member 101, Chapter Plan of Action, Parade of Chapters, and how to motivate your members.  The El Dorado Jaycees is the premiere young leaders organization in El Dorado offering leadership training through individual, business, and community development of it’s members and for the community as a whole.

 

JCI, Junior Chamber International, has activated Operation Hope for Jaycee organizations operating in affected areas of Haiti due to the devastation of the deadly earthquake on Tuesday.  All funds will be administered by JCI, the international umbrella of Jaycees, for the benefit of Jaycees working to help their communities. JCI is based in Chesterfield, Missouri.

2010 Chapter Planning Session

The El Dorado Jaycees will hold a 2010 Chapter Planning Session on Tuesday, January 12th at the El Dorado Chamber of Commerce.  The Board will meet at 5:30 PM followed by a Planning Session from 6-8 PM, dinner is provided.  Installation of the 2010 Board of Directors will occur.  Please RSVP to President@ElDoradoJaycees.org to get a proper count for dinner.

This meeting is for all members of the El Dorado Jaycees.  Bylaws amendments will also be on the agenda.

Jaycees at Christmastime

SAAC Festival of Trees

For the holidays the El Dorado Jaycees got into the holiday spirit by sponsoring a family through the South Arkansas Arts Center (SAAC) Festival of Trees and by purchasing toys for the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates)  MASH (Make A Smile Happen) Toy Drive.  The Jaycees also organized over 400 stockings for underprivileged children in our area.

 

The El Dorado Junior Chamber will play host to the 2010 Arkansas Junior Chamber Annual Meeting to be held August 13-15, 2010.  The Annual Meeting will include elections of 2011 State Officers and advanced JCI training.  All registration and agenda information is in development. 

The host hotel is the Country Inns & Suites at 2413 West Hillsboro in El Dorado, Arkansas. Senator Craig Griffin

Craig Griffin, a member of the El Dorado Jaycees, was inducted as JCI Senator #69138 on Tuesday, October 13that the annual Alumni Reception by State President Chad Peterson of Conway.  The JCI Senate is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon any member of a local chapter by JCI, Junior Chamber International.  The award was first created in 1952 and is only presented to those that have shown the highest commitment to the principles and beliefs of the organization.  Craig Griffin is only the ninth member of the El Dorado chapter to receive this award.  He has served the Jaycees as President of both the El Dorado Jaycees (2004) and the Arkansas Junior Chamber (part 2005). 

His other activities have included: El Dorado Rotary Club, District Rotary, Leadership El Dorado, Main Street El Dorado, Musicfest El Dorado, El Dorado Chamber of Commerce, El Dorado Downtown Improvement Task Force, El Dorado Marketing Implantation Task Force, United Way of Union County, El Dorado A&P Commission, Upward Bound Basketball, Cub Scouts – DeSoto Area Council, Union County Democratic Central Committee, Automotive Service Association, Society of Collision Repair Specialists, and the Arkansas Collision Repair Association.  He is married to Cathey McAllister Griffin and has two sons.

John Baine

John Baine

John Baine recently completed trainer certification with Junior Chamber International, JCI, at the Annual Meeting of the United States Junior Chamber in Orlando, Florida.  Baine is the only graduate of the JCI Trainer program in the state of Arkansas and will be responsible for interactive member training within local Junior Chamber chapters across Arkansas.  JCI is a worldwide leadership development organization with 200,000 members in 5,000 local chapters in over 100 countries.  JCI is the worldwide organization that includes the United States Junior Chamber, the Arkansas Junior Chamber, and the El Dorado Jaycees.

Baine served as President of the El Dorado Jaycees in 2006 when he led the Chapter to #1 in the state and #3 in the United States in the Parade of Chapters.  His work earned him the Charles Kulp, Jr. Memorial Award from the United States Junior Chamber and the Local Chapter President of the Year Award from the Arkansas Junior Chamber. He went on to serve as Business Development Vice-President of the Arkansas Junior Chamber in 2007 where he was recognized with the Dennis Hamilton Memorial Award for Outstanding Programming by the United States Junior Chamber. He most recently served as the 71st President of the Arkansas Junior Chamber in 2008.

He is an accountant with Murphy Oil Corporation and is serving his fifth term as a Justice of the Peace on the Union County Quorum Court.  He is also active on the boards of the Boomtown Toastmasters of El Dorado, Arkansas Association of Quorum Courts, Arkansas State University Alumni Association, and was appointed by Governor Beebe to a term on the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources Advisory Committee. He and his wife Jennifer reside in El Dorado.
